MCFC: City Kicks
The City Kicks website for Manchester City Football Club is one of the most rewarding and challenging projects I’ve worked on. Not only did I work on the original pitch, but after winning the contract I worked on the site launch and a 'phase 2' which saw extra functionality and a special match day experience added.
As a kids Membership scheme, it's incredibly successful, with over 3000 new members signing up. The site is a place where fans can discover the latest news, watch videos and play games.
All content is dynamically targeted based on age range and can be personalised. Under-5s can engage with a fun downloads section that includes dot-to-dots, while over-13s can add social media plug-ins for Facebook and Twitter.
The site is also designed to retain fans through ‘CityStars’. Using ‘gamification’ principles to generate repeat visits and increase time on the site, CityStars are awarded for various activities, such as playing games or submitting pictures. By accumulating privileges, fans can unlock exclusive content and open extra game levels. It's this attention to personalisation and gamification that undoubtedly keeps kids coming back. I've showcased the logo I designed and a few screens from the site below.
